Instability of the knee
The knee joint includes tibiofemoral, patellofemoral and superior tibiofibular joints. There are two menisci, which are semicircular discs of fibrocartilage between the femoral condyles and the flat heads of the diaphragm. Their main functions are shock absorption and stability improvement. There are many ligaments that provide stability and prevent excessive movement. The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), medial collateral ligament (MCL), and lateral collateral ligament (LCL) are the main ligaments in stabilizing the knee joint.
